The 2013 Southwest Spine and Sports 15k will take place on Sunday, March 10. The race will begin at 8:00 am. Bussing will begin at 5:30am and the last bus will leave at 7:15am.
Packet Pick Up:
Packets can be picked up race morning starting at 5:00am and continuing until the last bus leaves for the start at 7:15am. Packets can also be picked up at Sole Sports Running in Scottsdale from 11am-5pm on Saturday, March 9th. If you can’t make it Saturday but would like to have a friend pick up your packet that is fine. No ID or special permission is required.
Buses:
There is no runner drop off in McDowell Mountain Regional Park. Buses will run continuously from 5:30 – 7:15. We will not delay the race. If you aren’t on a bus by 7:15 you will not be able to race. Bus loading will be on Verde River between Parkview and Palisades. There will be random prize drawings on every bus leaving between 5:30-6:30am. Thanks in advance for boarding early.
Start Staging Area:
The race starts in McDowell Mountain Regional Park in the Pemberton Trail parking lot. There will be plenty of port-o-potties, water, and sports drink available. It may be chilly so wear something warm and take advantage of the bag drop. Buses will be driving in and out of the lot continuously so please be cautious. You are encouraged to warm up on the trail rather than the road.
Bag Drop:
You may drop a bag at the start. The bag should have your race number visible on it. Bags need to be dropped by 7:45 to insure they will beat you to the finish. The bag drop will be a Uhaul truck near the starting line.
Start Area:
The start area has two covered ramadas, a large concrete area for stretching, two park bathrooms, 20 port-o-potties, water, sports drink, and basic first aid supplies.
Start time:
The race starts at 8:00am and the course closes at 10:00am. The course is net downhill but does have several uphill stretches. There are four aid stations on the course at approximately miles 2, 4, 6 and 8. They will have water, sports drink, and basic first aid.
Post race:
The race finishes on Saguaro just past Avenue of the Fountains. After finishing you will pick up your bag and enjoy the post race party. Your race number is your ticket for a free beer. Beer servers will be carding so please bring ID. Kids’ races are being run in the park along Saguaro. The awards ceremony will be at 10:15. You must be present to win random awards. There will be fruit and granola bars for runners at the finish. Euro Pizza will be serving beer so don’t forget you wallet.
